Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 28, 2026
Marketplace Atlas ("the extension") is a Chrome browser extension that
overlays Facebook Marketplace search results with an interactive map.
This policy explains what data the extension touches, how it is used,
and your choices.
Data we collect and how it is used
The extension accesses the following data only to provide its core features:
-
Marketplace listing content. When you activate the
extension on a Facebook Marketplace page, it reads the listing titles,
prices, images, and location text visible in your browser tab. This
data is used solely to populate the map overlay and is never uploaded
to any server operated by Marketplace Atlas.
-
Location strings (city/state). Location text scraped
from listings is sent to the
OpenStreetMap Nominatim
geocoding API to convert place names into map coordinates. Nominatim
is a third-party public service; their
privacy policy
applies to those requests.
-
Geocode cache. Coordinate lookups are cached in
Chrome's local and sync storage so the same place name is not looked
up repeatedly. This cache stays in your Chrome profile and is not
shared with Marketplace Atlas.
-
Your device location (optional). If you click
"Show my location," Chrome will ask for permission. Your coordinates
are used only to center the map and display a location indicator.
They are never transmitted outside your browser.
-
AI provider requests (optional, user-configured).
If you enable the optional AI price-check feature and supply your own
API key, listing title and location information will be sent to the AI
provider you select (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or OpenRouter).
The API key and all AI settings are stored only in your local Chrome
profile. Marketplace Atlas never receives your API key or AI responses.
Data we do not collect
- We do not operate any backend server that receives user data.
- We do not collect analytics, telemetry, crash reports, or usage statistics.
- We do not sell, share, or transfer any data to third parties beyond the service calls described above (Nominatim for geocoding, and your chosen AI provider if you opt in).
- We do not use cookies or tracking pixels.
Data storage
All persistent data (geocode cache, settings, favorites, hidden items)
is stored in Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local and
chrome.storage.sync APIs. This data lives in your Chrome
profile and is subject to
Google's privacy policy
for sync data. You can clear it at any time by removing the extension.
Third-party services
The extension communicates with the following external services when
performing its core functions:
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim — geocoding. Public API, no account required.
- OpenStreetMap tile servers — map tile images. No personal data is sent.
- Your chosen AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or OpenRouter) — only if you enable AI price checks and provide your own API key.
Marketplace Atlas has no affiliation with Facebook/Meta and does not
interact with any Facebook API. It only reads content already rendered
in your browser tab.
Children's privacy
The extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not
knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL.
Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of
the updated policy.
